Making Hand Crafted Salve Since 1999
Herbalist Julie Brannon created Mom’s Healing Salve in 1999, when her daughter was a rough-and-tumble toddler. Bailey was a boo-boo magnet, but there was no way Julie was going to put over-the-counter chemical preparations on her skin. “So I played around with some herbs and came up with a formula that was super gentle yet had great healing power. It gave me great peace of mind, knowing that what I used on Bailey was all-natural and extremely safe to use as frequently as needed”.
Julie didn’t start making the salve for retail sale until about 2004; it was customer demand that had her amping up production. “I would keep a jar of salve under the counter at my shop, and when folks would come in with a burn, or a bite, or a scrape I’d just plunk some salve in a baggie and give it to them. Pretty soon they were back, telling me how amazing it was, and wanting to buy it”.
Julie sells A LOT of salve to locals and within the U-S, but she also ships to other countries. “I had a lady in Hong Kong contact me for the salve… I was like… Hong Kong? She had been visiting family in the States, got a bad cut, and a next door neighbor gave her some Mom’s. She liked it so much she didn’t care about the shipping cost!” People often buy a half dozen at a time, use it for stocking stuffers at Christmas, and share it with friends. “It’s really remarkable how much people love my salve, and it gives me such a good feeling, knowing that it in some small way it makes a difference in their lives.”
Mom’s Healing Salve is stellar at healing cuts, burns, scrapes, bug bites, and even sunburn. But it’s also incredibly effective for eczema and other irritations like diaper rash and even athlete’s foot. “I have some gals who use it as night cream and swear it helps reduce wrinkles. Others say it’s amazing for bruises. I don’t know… I made it for Bailey’s boo-boo’s, but it’s pretty cool that people have found it has so many uses. I have a lot of folks who use it on their pets too!”
The packaging has gone through some transformation over time, but the salve is still exactly the same…. every batch handmade by Julie, using her original formula. “You know what they say: if it isn’t broken – don’t fix it!”
How Our Salve is Made
Mom’s Healing Salve is handmade in small batches using an ancient infused-oil technique, with the finest organic ingredients available: calendula, comfrey, plantain, yarrow, lavender, lemongrass, olive oil and natural unbleached beeswax sourced from a Florida beekeeper.
